![]() Welcome to the home of the very worst of the meretricious poetasters! NEWS ARCHIVES2-5-07 Freedom, Beauty, Truth and Love is up now... at a temporary site. I'm going to update for content here until I square away the domain and hosting ASAP. I will post all of the regular stuff there, and clean up this page likely tomorrow. Link dump for stuff I've done will be up, and I'll be posting poetry for the next few days. Enjoy! 1-31-07 I am well! I have spent the last two days readying FBTL instead of updating this site. FBTL will go live this weekend if all goes according to plan. At that time, I will post several poems I've stored up to make up for the lack recently. I will also soon update the recent stuff here. 1-29-07 I am sick, thus the no update-age. More soon. 1-23-07 New Smallville review (611). New daily poem, It's Another. Also, a review of A Scanner Darkly. 1-21-06 New daily poem for today (A Treatise On Segregation) and tomorrow (Berry Blend). New Smallville review on the Superman Homepage. 1-17-06 New daily poem for today (Denouement for 19th) and tomorrow (I Buried Her in the Exquisitely Crafted, Valuable Backyard). 1-16-07 I just wrote a review for Cinema Crazed. The "I'm A Real Ass Nigga" comic is in final stages of completion. Jordan Peters, my artist, just came in with some fantastic work, and I finally had a second to sit down and work on correcting my failures with the piece. We should have copies for the Emerald City Comic Con if all goes well. Either way, good news! Poetry coming. 1-14-07 Okay! Back to work! There's at the Superman Homepage, and a new Smallville review, 610. I'm also working on the new site, which you can preview here. Actually, Sion's doing most of the work, I'm designing, but it's on the way. Tomorrow I'm going to see him, and it's getting close. More soon, including a rearranging of the above gobbledygook tomorrow. The appraisal came in, and it looks like it'll be fine for what I'm trying to do. Good times. 1-9-07 Hoo-ah. I am, today, finishing this house. I will then, in three days, be able to devote myself fully to writing, forever and ever, amen, kaput, good day sir. Thusly updates will begin anew, and hopefully, the new sites will be up shortly. Sion and I are working hard on it as we get time. Good things coming, keep checking back. 12-25-06 Merry Christmas, etcetera. I haven't any updates, but you're probably so full of turkey you don't care. Here's the plan/deal. Sion and I will unveil the new design shortly, and I just found out that my house has to be finished by the tenth of next month, so I am focussing almost wholly on that. The sad part is that means updates will be sporadic and I am beaten senseless. The good side of this is that as soon as the house is done, I no longer have to fix houses to support my writing, so updates will be constant, uninterrupted, and in an awesome new format, as of January 10. So stay tuned. I'll likely still update a few times between now and then. 12-18-06 Going away to family until Thursday, birthday on Friday, updates unlikely until just before Christmas, but I WILL be making up the daily poems. You watch. Happy Holidays! 12-17-06 New video poem, Mrs. Ridgeway. I am going to clean up the main page shortly and update the daily poems. It's been a crazy few days, and will likely remain sporadic until the first of the year, when, for your patience, I will put up the new website design and blog, and life will get a lot easier and constant. Keep checking daily. Next Tuesday through Thursday I will be out of town, so likely no updates, but there should be updates on Christmas Eve and Day, I'm guessing. I have removed the downloadable Video Poem versions because they are readily available on Youtube and it will save server space. If anyone objects, let me know. 12-16-06 Updates coming soon. I'm entering the final fix-up mode on my house today and tomorrow and early Monday, so updates will be sporadic, but ALL promised content will be here. Likely tomorrow. 12-14-06 New daily poem, Mrs. Ridgeway. 12-13-06 New daily poem, Intellect's Reward. New CTF. In a few days I will be going to the east side of the state, and will thusly lose some updates, but I will say when there will be no updates here. 12-13-06 I am changing my policy of responding to all mail. I will no longer respond to hate mail. I've found over years of experience that most is written from hate and irrationality by an incresingly young or polemic group of people who just want someone to spear. I used to think that writing them back would perhaps appeal to a sense of logic, we could have a cogent debate, and then come to some kind of equitable compromise. I've finally decided that just isn't so. So henceforth, flames will simply be deleted and not responded to, except in the Smallville letter column, where I will make the sender look like an ass for fun. 12-12-06 Daily poem for yesterday, Detective Work. Daily poem for today, Well Now Who Could That Be?. 12-11-06 Work went well. I don't have a poetry update yet, but other things I wrote are now up, including Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride, the Hunter Thompson biography review, and the review for Smallville 609: Subterranean. Also: Superman Confidential 2, and the Ultimate Superman DVD collection review. 12-11-06 There may be no update today due to the redesigning of the pages...BUT, no worries, I will come back tomorrow with a poem to make up for it, and hey, there might still be an update, so check back! 12-10-06 New Caption Contest. New daily poem, Almost Two Years Now. Updated the novel page with a newer version of Elephant. New Video Poem, number 34: Neal's Fishing Show. To download, click here, or view below: 12-9-06 I was interviewed by Literary Road, who is distributing the e-book version of Benjamin's Dream. You can find the link to the page here, and a direct link to the MP3 here. It's fun! 12-9-06 Took a work day yesterday...but I wrote enough poetry to beat the hump, so I have two new pieces for you, Citizen Kane's Mission Statement and Interest Points. I will update the video poem later today, I have a really good one. I've also decided to split the content and the author page on this site, so that it will become more user friendly and hopefully attract more hits. The basics I'm working over with my friend Sion Heaney, but basically the plan is to take all of the content on the site currently, pare it down to the best samples of the work (though it'll still be quite voluminous) and put it all on a single page, a sample page. That'll combine poetry, scripts, comics, canvas, etcetera. There will be a basic author site, per gregrucka.com and stephenking.com, where you basically get biographical information and how to buy my books if you so wish. Then, there will be a blog, http://www.freedombeautytruthandlove.com, or http://www.FBTL.com, which will have daily content from me and an archive system. When the archives get voluminous, I'll take the pieces, pare them down, and put them on this site, which will make it a place to keep checking back. Also, the reviews will still be listed here. CTF will be folded into the new blog and become a category, using the Wordpress style. Criticisms? Ideas? Concepts? Email me. It will likely take place next week barring a strenuous objection, but I doubt there will be, because part of the point is that this site is, for some reason, not dragging in a lot of readers. So I'm gonna simple it up but keep the content coming. 12-7-06 New daily poem, Warming to the Concept. I am going to likely make big changes to this site to make it more accessible in the next few days/week. For information, check the livejournal. 12-6-06 New daily poem, Advice. New CTF. 12-5-06 New daily poem, The State. The DVD review is done and should run tomorrow, more on that as it develops...and I gave Felix the review, it should be up later today or tomorrow. 12-4-06 New daily poem, Substance > Beauty. The Superman Review might be tomorrow, dependent on what happens with the other coordinated parts of the review. 12-3-06 New daily poem, Botox and Sawdust. Caption Contest 82 at the Superman Homepage. 12-2-06 New daily poem, Chasing the Lawyer. New video poem, Anthropomorphic Ass Licking. Download at this link, or view here: 12-1-06 New daily poem, Why Cleanliness is the Devil. 11-30-06 New daily poem, Jesus and Jane. 11-29-06 New daily poem, That's Good to Me. Also, a couple CTFs, one particularly poignant (to me, anyway). 11-28-06 New daily poem, Anthropomorphic Ass Licking. Also, review of Snakewoman (A lesbian erotica flick) on Cinema Crazed. 11-27-06 New daily poem, Black Friday. Extra CTF for the hell of it. Review of Action Comics 845. 11-26-06 Extra CTFs to make up for missing posts last weekend. Check it out. More tomorrow. 11-26-06 New daily poem, Got the Motherfucker. New Caption Contest. Extra CTF coming. 11-25-06 Apologizes for the delay. I probably should have specified that later in the day means MY day, which is now mostly over but still the 25th for me. At any rate, here are three poems, as promised, Fun with Assholes, Break, and Fix My Stairs. There is also a new Video Poem, which you can see here or download. I will be making up for lost time tomorrow in terms of content, so be sure to check in. Thanksgiving threw me for a bit of a loop. 11-25-06 Updates shortly...working the holiday weekend on the house. I'll have all the poems for the missing days likely today. 11-22-06 New daily poem, Oh, Grandma. Also, five new CTF articles, so get your ass over there, huh? Also, there's a new review over at Cinema Crazed, Preserve Me A Seat, a great flick you should check out. I loved it. PS: Go see Bond. WORTH IT. 11-21-06 New daily poem, Payday. I don't do rhyming poetry, and you know that, the reason it rhymes is because it's a song, which you can listen to in rough form here. Be aware I sung it with a tired voice, missed a few chords, and didn't perfect it, but hey, it's something, huh? New Chronicling the Fall (just a bonus one). New review at Cinema Crazed for Casino Royale. Bonus review coming tomorrow... 11-20-06 New daily poem, In the Rafters. New review at the Superman Homepage, 52 week 28. (The Smallville Review is also up now). The comic review link should work soon if it's not already. 11-19-06 New Caption Contest at the Superman Homepage. New daily poem, Forgive Me My Mistakes. The Smallville Review should be up shortly. 11-18-06 New daily poem, Ten Days of Rain. Updated the reviews page. New Video Poem, number 31, "No Weak Sister" available for download and on youtube: 11-17-06 New daily poem, My Sound. When the Smallville review is up and ready, which may be tonight or tomorrow, it will be here or the link above. UPDATE: Steve just told me it'll be up Sunday. 11-16-06 New daily poem, I'll Be Seeing You, Buddy (You're Going to Need A Bigger Boat). New movie review, Broken. 11-15-06 New daily poem, Giant Dice Are NOT Always Funny. New CTF. 11-14-06 New daily poem, She's Going to Get Herself Killed. 11-14-06 New review up at Cinema Crazed, Bums. Daily poem later today. 11-13-06 New daily poem, Determinism is Bullshit. 11-13-06 New CTF. Daily poem later today. 11-12-06 The Smallville review is now live. New daily poem, Nice Lady At Shucks. Also, new Caption Contest (79) at the Superman Homepage. 11-11-06 Or maybe Youtube is gonna be a punk. Attempting to fix...until then, the download link works...UPDATE: Fixed. Now the youtube works (as you can see below). 11-11-06 New daily poem, And. The Smallville review should be up shortly, and be available at the posted link. New Video Poem, number 30, "And." Available for download and on youtube (If the link isn't working yet, check back in 5-10 mins): 11-10-06 New daily poem, "Jump!". The new Smallville review (607:Rage) will be available at the link when it is up, and should be up shortly after Steve edits and posts. It's written. 11-9-06 New daily poem, Three Steps Back. 11-8-06 New daily poem, Wet States. I also updated CTF, but the blogger's not letting me upload it. Keep checking the link, it should be up some time tonight. Election coverage. 11-7-06 New daily poem, Hef For God, 2008. New review at Cinema Crazed, Tartarus. Look for CTF updates as election results roll in... 11-6-06 All video poems have been uploaded to Youtube and are now directly visually accessible without download on the video poem page. Check it out! 11-6-06 New daily poem, At Least I Still Have Each Other. 11-5-06 New review, Superman Confidential. New Caption Contest. 11-5-06 Updated poetry with 42 poems. These didn't all make it into Roofer, but that doesn't mean they suck! Enjoy. 11-5-06 Updated reviews. 11-5-06 As you can see, above is a listing of daily content I'm going to provide. A friend (Will) suggested that I put a list of what I'm doing on all fronts here on this front page, so that people will stop here to find out what I'm up to on all fronts. I think that's a damned good idea, and since this page was stagnating, that's just what I'm going to do. I've also decided to very pointedly schedule what I'm up to, so expect a daily poem, and all the above on a weekly basis. As the day of the week arrives, I hope to turn the above into links for you to check out, starting this Monday. Enjoy! 11-2-06 With any luck, I will be updating this site in the next few days to reflect the poetry that didn't make it into Roofer, offer up a sample of Roofer in progress, and put in basically about 100 new poems. Brace yourself. I'm also going to start video poems again. 10-17-06 The new book, ROOFER, is finished, and in final edits. I'm back to updating the site like normal now. Expect major poetry updates in the next few days. As for now, the reviews page has 23 new reviews to check out. Keep coming back, more soon... 7-2-06 So much for more updates...but I have a good reason. The poetry book is almost done. I'm doing my best. In the meanwhile, check out the updated reviews page with over 50 new reviews from all over the place! 5-22-06 The lack of updates of late because of the book will shortly end, keep checking back. Today, I'm releasing BENJAMIN'S DREAM, my fourth novel, in print form. Please purchase a copy, or email me about a copy. You'll like it. I am also updating Chronicling the Fall again. 4-25-06 I have updated Madly, making a second edition of the book. A few errors were addressed. I have also added the "Cheapskate special", which is an edition that's in a large format (8.5 X 11) and thus not to the preference of some, but, by contrast, is two dollars cheaper. Booya! Check both out in the publications section. 4-23-06 GREAT NEWS! Conscious Publishing has decided to put out a book of my poems, with a possible second book to follow! Watch this site for more information as the next few weeks go on. For exclusive, early information, including advance orders and pricing before everyone else hears about it, sign up for the mailing list! I have removed the "commission" section for obvious reasons, and will likely be immersed in editing and selection for the next two months. This doesn't mean don't write me, it just means don't expect too many CTFs. I'm not stopping them, but I will only do them as time permits, as this book takes obvious precedence. Woo ha! Thanks for the support, guys, look where it's leading! 4-13-06 NEW BOOK! "Dogs On the Roof" is available now in the publications section! Also available, the "I'm A Real Ass Nigga" chapbook, and, best of all, an e-book version of Benjamin's Dream through Literary Road! More on the way! 4-13-06 Fixed the Homicidal Suicidal Psychological Steve paragraph breaks in the novels section. Why does no one tell me these things? More poetry shortly. 4-4-06 Check out this unmitigated awesomeness: ![]() This is the work of Tony Flores, the artist of L'il Jeewee, a character from the Brownywood site. I met them at the con, and they handed me a comic that I was in! So incredibly awesome! Visit the site NOW! Or else! 3-30-06 Updated poetry through the 2nd of next month, adding 24 new poems. Please, if you're in Washington, come see me at the Emerald City Comic Con this Saturday and Sunday! I have broadsides now, and chapbooks...expect to see them posted here soon. I'm having fun with printing. And hey, what do you want to see on this site? No one ever tells me "More CTF!" "More poems!" or "More video poems!", beyond Nikki and Felix and Noah. But I know what they like. How about you, the silent folk? 3-16-06 Updated poetry through the 9th, adding 13 new poems. More coming on Monday or Tuesday, hopefully. CTF may be on Monday this week. 3-6-06 Updated "Survivor: America!". Poetry forthcoming. 2-25-06 Added the new CTF button above...to the left. Also updated daily poetry through the last few days...check it out! 2-13-06 Poetry updated through yesterday. That's right, homies. 25 poems. In the meanwhile, keep hitting up the CTF blog. I'm still working there, too. Nyah! 2-9-06 No, I have not died or forgotten the site...I'm just playing catchup from my vacation. I have a ton of poems, almost enough to even us up, and some day, very shortly, I will add about eighty thousand CTF entries. It is coming. Be warned. 1-23-06 Updated the poetry section with daily poems through the 21st. More coming. 1-21-06 Updated the review section with 28 more Superman reviews and five more Cinema Crazed pieces. 1-16-06 Updated the poetry section with daily poems through today. 1-14-06 I have moved the Chronicling the Fall articles to the new CTF blog. It will soon be under http://www.chroniclingthefall.com, but I haven't quite squared it away yet, so instead go HERE for mucho updates on a constant basis. I will still be updating the poetry here, and I have enough for the last few days, it's just setting up the blog killed some time. More tomorrow, likely. 1-10-06 Updated the poetry section with daily poems through tomorrow. There should be a CTF later today. 1-6-06 Updated the CTF graphics with a new, awesome one from Felix Vasquez, my brother from another mother (even though when a white guy says that, it just sounds...WRONG). Anyway, point being, check it out: ![]() Also, I added the original version of that pic to the author photo section. 1-6-06 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. New daily poems through the seventh in the poetry section. I have also, believe it or not, updated Survivor: America, and I plan to continue soon. 1-4-06 The link to purchase Paladin was the wrong one. My apologies. It has been corrected in the publications section. 1-2-06 Updated the publications section to reflect the availability of PALADIN, issue one! Go get it, suckas! 1-2-06 New daily poem, Uncle Sam, on the poetry page. 1-1-06 New daily poem, Christ on the poetry page. New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. Finished the new novel! 12-30-05 Sick. More ASAP. 12-26-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 12-26-05 Okay. So I said no updates. Instead, I saved up some energy and wrote enough poetry to fill the gap, to thank you for your patience. New CTF coming, in the meantime, go see the EIGHT new daily poems in the poetry page. 12-24-05 ![]() LOL Drudge. 12-18-05 New daily poem, Happy Birthday, on the poetry page. There will be no more updates until 12-26, for obvious reasons. 12-17-05 New daily poem, Approved For Takeoff, on the poetry page. 12-16-05 New daily poem, Long Drives on the poetry page. New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 12-15-05 New daily poem, Damn Her, on the poetry page. 12-14-05 New daily poem, Brave Boys Aren't Afraid of Wolves on the poetry page. New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 12-13-05 New daily poem, This Fucking Room is Blue, on the poetry page. 12-12-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 12-12-05 New daily poem, Call to Duty, on the poetry page. 12-11-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 12-11-05 New daily poem, Sewer Work and Characterization, on the poetry page. 12-10-05 Okay! The server was dead on Thursday, briefly, otherwise this would have happened sooner. I have begun the daily poem, and put up the first three, Fucking Dogs, Sepulchral Delusion, and The Darkness, of All Bands. They're also reflected on the new, updated, refined poetry page which I will henceforth refer you to for the daily poem. Phillip and Felix said they missed the CTFs, so I'm gonna start them up again. They're not going to be daily, alas, but I'm still going to do them. I'm going to try and do one either today, or in the next few days (I'm a little out of the news loop, and Christmas and my birthday approach with haste...again though, thanks for your patience as I sort things out. 12-8-05 Google shafted me out of my 26 bucks that I earned through getting people to click the ads because apparently, you're not supposed to TELL people to click the ads, just put them on your site and hope that people DO. Guess that's just counter-intuitive, and since I encouraged people to click them, they banned me and my site from their program. Grand. I'm now working on completing my new novel. I'm 91 pages in, and my goal is to be finished by the new year with the first draft. That means that I'll have very little time for CTF, but seeing as no one has seemed to miss it I'm not too worried. I'm going to instead make it my goal to put up a new poem every day on the site, and streamline the poetry section, losing a lot of the less epic poems in the next few days and getting a poem a day going. Thanks for your patience in this, and thanks for continuing to visit. I'm slowed up by the fact that I'm turning 26 and I have yet to have any substantial piece published in print that I have not put out myself. Unbelievably frustrating for a near decade of solid work. 11-26-05 I will be away working on a house for the next week. Apologies, but needs must as the devil drives. 11-25-05 Congrats to buddy FELIX VASQUEZ who I write for over at http://www.cinema-crazed.com, at having secured a position with FILM THREAT! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! 11-25-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 11-24-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 11-23-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 11-22-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 11-21-05 Huge update to poetry, 19 new pieces from the last two months. Enjoy. 11-21-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. Poetry update soon. 11-20-05 Sorry about the lack of updates. Over the last week I finished up Smallville for a few months, got a lot of my house in line, and set myself into a schedule. I also had to get a few things for the Emerald City Comic Con out of the way, long, time consuming stuff that's pretty much done now. Point being? Expect a return to daily CTF tomorrow, with an overly large article to make up for lost time. 11-14-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 11-10-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. Thank you for your patience with the move. Expect a large update of poetry soon...and more consistent CTF. Sorry about the problems. 11-2-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 10-31-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. PS...if the site goes down in the next few days, it is NOT Gremlins. I will explain shortly. Please be patient, and do not remove links. I am not disappearing. 10-25-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 10-24-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 10-23-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 10-22-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. The LJ folk have started laying off me for daring to have an idea they disagree with, so updates should be more regular-like. 10-19-05 Sorry for the lack of CTF. My decision has been to do one as often as I can and not sweat it if I miss a day. I am taking a few days off and doing a few things that need to get done, but, as you may know, there's one hell of a controversy style argument brewing here and here, and you might want to check that out. It's at very least something that befits the CTF dialogue and the endeavor to question what we know and love. In fact, I'll probably make it a CTF when I get a minute, along with Felix's post that I really enjoyed a little bit back that he gave me permission for. In other words, yeah, there's been a few days of lull. But expect things to pick up. When I'm taken down by life, etcetera, I always push back with more work. 10-17-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 10-16-05 I updated comics with updated information on projects, etcetera. Nothing too big, but some changes. 10-16-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 10-16-05 My apologies on the few missed days of CTF. I am debating whether to continue daily. I am beginning to think it might be better to do one big massive one a week so that I can spend the other days working on a new novel. Each daily one has been taking three hours, and I really need those 15 hours a week back. I can see that site traffic has increased in the last few weeks, I'm not sure if it's Smallville or CTF, but if you would be so kind as to shoot me a line and let me know, I'd greatly appreciate it. Now is the best time for me to choose in the next few months, and since nobody reads my books, really, but a number read the CTF, I'm trying to decide. Regardless, either later tonight or tomorrow I will post an absolutely HUGE CTF to clean my article slate and get me to the point where I can render a decision either way. 10-10-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 10-9-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. There may be no new CTF tomorrow, as I'm going to visit my buddy Kevin in Bellingham. 10-8-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 10-6-05 Okay, here's the plan. Steve wants me to wait until the site comes back, but he should have things up Saturday. Also, I made a page of all the graphics in the Chronicling the Falls, just for easy access, and for fun, because I am constantly hitting Maddox's version, and I very much use him as a role model for hilarity in efficacy, like Hunter Thompson. 10-6-05 Thanks to everyone who's concerned about the Superman Homepage going down. The server is getting new technology, and for some reason, it knocked the whole kit and kaboodle down. It'll likely be back up on Saturday, which means JLU and Smallville reviews will likely be posted the following week, as Steve will be on vacation. My apologies...I may post here for the diehards in the meanwhile if Steve says it's okay (I promise him total exclusivity on my Superman writing.) Keep watching. 10-6-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 10-5-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 10-4-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 10-3-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 10-2-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 10-1-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 9-28-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 9-28-05 Updated the eighth Picking A Good Fight with the accurate translation of the vitriol, thanks to Dan Flores. Changed the ad for the two books, courtesy of my main man, Felix Vasquez...who I now owe many a beer and review. Check it out below, and at the bottom of every page on the site. Hate to hit you with ads, but then, I really want to share the media with folks. It's not to make me money, it's to remind you to check it out! 9-27-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 9-26-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 9-25-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 9-24-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. Sorry about the delay. Explanation in the article... 9-20-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 9-19-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. No new Ramos letters to laugh at. Guess he's busy calling people half-breed monkeys or something. Sorry! 9-18-05 Overhauled comics to reflect the many projects that I am working on, taking down a few ideas that will eventually be published. To get an idea about all of the comics I'm producing, check them out. There are even a few still open for artists... 9-18-05 Updated the eighth "Picking A Good Fight". Alex Ramos again emailed me, to hilarious results. Now he's just making shit up. (With proof). 9-18-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. And again, in response to yesterday's column, Alex Ramos decides to spew more vitriol at me. In response, of course, I'm publishing and responding to his racist bullshit. Enjoy! His new postulate for today: I am a former drug user. Anyone got my next fix? 9-17-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. Sorry about the delay. I had a tired meltdown. So many 12 hour days...they get to you. Thankfully, I am rested, recharged, and ready to kick ass again now. I also got a nice little racist email from Alex Ramos. The guy does NOT know how to give up when he's losing. But it's endlessly entertaining, so I've again published his letter and my response under Picking a Good Fight in the Controversy section. I also added another Picking A Good Fight I've been holding for a while mostly because it was a pain in the butt to template. But both are up now. 9-14-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 9-13-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 9-12-05 I have updated the reviews section with all of the current reviews. 9-12-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 9-11-05 New Chronicling the Fall on the Controversy page. 9-10-05 Today I'm going to a wedding, so no CTF, sorry. So please, take advantage of that. I will gladly return the 7 cents. 8-22-05 New Chronicling the Fall. I have added new short stories to the short stories section, including Sad, Suzie Menalaus Would Bring Me A Sandwich, Switch, and Confirmation and Communion. More in the next few days. 8-21-05 I am slowly but surely adding a ton of short stories to the short story section, mostly the Dark Idol pieces, but a few new ones. Probably about one a day. I'll list them by the day. Today: The Existential Proverbial Truck. They're in the website format for easy reading. Enjoy! Also, though I have yet to make OFFICIAL official announcement over the email list, please note that I have now added my "best of" volume of poetry, If You're Reading This, I'm Probably Dead, below. It's almost 400 pages in length, and I am accepting NO ROYALTIES for this work. I'm just putting it out there in the cheapest way possible in the hopes that people will buy and read it. So please do! The cover credit belongs to Steve Younis, and I think he did an absolutely incredible job. Check it out! 400 pages of poetry for 12 bucks. Cheap! In the good news department, Portent has offered to publish New Patriot under its banner once we get it together, and that includes a nice little 8 page ditty we're cooking up, coming out soon. More on that as it develops. 7-9-05 New Chronicling the Fall. 7-2-05 New Controversy. Six more submissions this week. I'm also now writing for http://www.semidomesticatedprimate.org. So link it! I could have lied and said I had post-pardem hemmorhoids, but I figured it better not to lie. Controversy, etc soon. More soon. 6-11-05 New Controversy. 6-6-05 I updated the poetry section with about 20 new poems. I added three new Video Poems to make up for the ones I missed in the last few months because of work. Sent out the first newsletter this afternoon, don't miss any more, sign up for the mailing list today! Also, check out the Red Nose Day! It's a charity I'm helping out with at the Superman Homepage, and it helps deal with SIDS and other horrible diseases. Last year we raised over 1500 dollars for leukemia, this year I'm hoping we can help raise more! Please contribute, if you can... 6-5-05 New Controversy. I've also got a new Video Poem, but I have to ready it with all the new poetry I've written. Expect to see it in the next few days, along with the first message off to the mailing list. Also, I updated the review section. 5-28-05 New Controversy. Dark Idol went splat. I'm sorry to all of those that tried to help. I wish I could have kept it going, but it wasn't my choice. In other news, we have a mailing list now, at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/neal_bailey/. Please join up, and get updates! I will be releasing a book after I proof it in the next week. Expect the announcement here and on the new mailing list, along with a preview. 5-24-05 Update coming soon. I'm taking a few days to respond to mail. I may have to skip a Controversy week, but I'll make up for that with a big new offering this week. Keep watching! 5-16-05 At his request, I have removed Jerry Newingham's work from the site. I have also added a picture of my friend Noah in pics, along with a veritable ton of new photos. I also added more old news, as I'd forgotten before. 5-16-05 New Controversy.Dark Idol has returned! Please, go vote! Here for the stories and here for the voting. 5-7-05 New Controversy. 5-2-05 Updated the Alex Ramos mail with the newest iterations of fun and madness, and added a few more hate letters, since folks got some amusement out of the first one. It can be found at the bottom of the main controversy page. 5-1-05 Added a new feature to the Controversy section: How to Pick A Good Fight. Check it out. It's got a few laughs, at least. 4-30-05 New Controversy. Dinoship said no. Most work has come to a grinding halt. 4-25-05 New video poem. I'm particularly fond of that one. The Dark Idol Contest is still on hold, as far as I know. I also added new Poetry. New pictures coming soon, I'm having camera issues. New Controversy on Friday. I'm skipping a week to make up for the late one last week and to catch up on mail. 4-19-05 New Controversy. The Dark Idol contest has been put on hiatus for now after the last round collapsed. I will keep everyone updated. I also updated the review section with the most recent reviews. New Video Poem forthcoming soon. 4-10-05 New Controversy. 4-5-05 New Controversy. New video poem. It seems that I have survived another round (reports are that the contest is closed, though my browser is wonky) of the Dark Idol contest. That means there are two more rounds to survive! Please, go vote! Here for the stories and here for the voting. 3-26-05 New Controversy. I am now well. New video poem. I have a potential new novel that has a very good first few pags in, and the Dark Idol contest goes extremely well. Please, go vote! Here for the stories and here for the voting. 3-18-05 New Controversy. I am now getting well. New Video Poem in the next few days. 3-15-05 I know it's time for a new Video Poem, but I have taken ill. I will have it as soon as my voice isn't a raspy husk. Thank you for your patience. 3-12-05 New Controversy. I'm still in the Dark Idol contest...please help me by shooting over there! Here for the stories and here for the voting! 3-5-05 New Controversy. For now, the regular schedule will be a new Controversy every Friday, and a new Video Poem every two weeks on the other side of the week (Monday/Tuesday) so that I can keep things regular. Enjoy! 3-1-05 Look ma, I'm coursework! The wonders never cease! That's awesome. Also, you might wonder what the hell this is and what it has to do with this site's future. Well, wait and see, padawans. And HEY! George ponied up the camera, so there are two new video poems awaiting you in the video poem section! What are you waiting for? Oh, did I mention I improved the Video Poem page? Guess I did, huh? 2-25-05 Well, I noticed that I misspelled Meretricious on this site, and fixed that. I also see you, you prying eyes, you people visiting. More people in this, the shortest month, than any other month since the time we put Superman Unlimited on the Superman Homepage. It's awesome. There are more people hitting the site, more people bookmarking, and I think it's either Smallville folk, or people digging the Controversy...drop me a line and let me know either way. Regardless, I've been inspired by the higher numbers and by catching up on a number of projects, so you will here find a new Controversy. There's also a bunch of new poems, twenty to be exact, in the poetry section, and that's not counting the ones I can't print in public for varying reasons, you know who you are. ;) . George has promised me my camera back, the doity theef, tomorrow, so expect a few video poems to make up for the lost ones soon, and also a regularity on those as well. Any requests would be helpful, if you want any in particular. I was thinking about setting up a mailing list for updates to this site, but the last time I offered a mailing list, no one responded. So if you would be interested, shoot me an email. I'm still in the Dark Idol contest, and the new round has started...please help me by shooting over there! Here for the stories and here for the voting! 2-20-05 Sometimes, we have to live through sad days. Sometimes, bad things, horrible things happen. My consoling statement for this, as he would have liked, is "Buy the ticket, take the ride.". ![]() Hunter Thompson shot himself last night. But why? Why? I'm just...I'm torn apart. If you're unfamiliar with the man, pick up one of his works. If you read my controversies, I ripped the style straight from the man, and I owe him much of my writing style, and my piss and vinegar. God, I say again, why? 2-19-05 I am thinking about the Controversy column, and the nature of the internet viewership... I know why blogs are successful. They do what I do, with less commentary, and they also have daily stuff. My Controversy articles are slightly more to the point and somewhat thematic, but they're weekly or bi-weekly. The poetry is still bringing more people in. I was thinking about installing a message board and making Controversy a daily story that I find and comment on, and let people interact and react to. So the question is, what's better to you? A smaller amount of daily content you can interact with, or a series of stories once a week or once every two weeks? I'm also thinking about making Controversy a livejournal, but I'd prefer to refer links to nealbailey.com Any advice would be helpful. Neal 2-17-05 As promised, here's your update. I put up a new Controversy, and there's also other updates. I completely overhauled and added to the photo section. Now you can click on the thumbnails for a bigger picture, I figured that out. I updated the reviews. I also added two new posters in the comics section. I also took down New Patriot, because I am talking with a company, PV comics, about maybe getting something going with it. That rules. Also, go and visit Dark Idol and vote for my ass! If you do, you may be reading a novel announcement here. You can vote once a day, and the new contest begins on Monday. Furthermore, I archived the old news. And finally, there will be a new video poem and a bunch of new poetry in the next few days. I must merely do all the filework for the poetry and scam my camera back from George Howard, not to name names...and when I get it back, I'll do a few to make up for the ones I've been missing. Take care, all! 2-14-05 Major update in the next few days. Big news, good news, and section revamps coming. I'm back and ready to roll. Looks like "Rebecca" hit off pretty well. I came home to find 170 emails. There are three screens like this one to go through, and that's BEFORE friends and family. Yoinks! ![]() 1-30-05 Oh, don't think I haven't noticed that the number of people visiting this site has doubled. All you new folk rule. Hits had been dropping for a while, I think the new design scared some people off, but I got about 800 uniques this month, and 1200 visits, and that's great by me! That's better than most literary mags. Thank you all. I know it's been mum on most fronts, but I do have a reason. I'm preparing for the Emerald City Comic Con, where I hear there will be DC folk. I've been working my scripts all to hell, and there's also new work from Allesandro on New Patriot. The first issue is half finished, by the by, but I'm not showing it to the public, so that potentially we can get a sale. BUT, the art to the new arc is just incredible, Al has really jumped up his game. Check out this sample, which is all I'll put up for now, but it's one of the most beautiful panels yet, from a scene in the hall of records, when Patriot starts to enact his program of social reformation: ![]() There's also a bunch of new poetry, almost enough for an update, that's coming in a week or so, and there's a new Controversy. The reviews are also updated...check that out. 1-19-05 New Controversy. I've gotten to 53 submissions out this year, and I have 52 letters to go before I'm caught up and ready for my regular work schedule. Updates should be more frequent and regular. I'm making some good connections...watch this space. 1-5-05 New Controversy. I've been ill, but more is coming... 1-5-05 I made up a new Video Poem based on Shivering for the Greyhound; Inside, Denouement. You can find the poem here. Over the next few days, I'll have the big Controversy, and more... 1-5-05 Okay! I have the first portion of the large update done. First off, thanks to additional space on my server, I have uploaded all of the old Video Poems, which is cool, because people have asked for the Ding Ding poem. I have also updated the Reviews with new reviews, and put up a bunch of new poetry. Enjoy! More coming in the next few, including a new video poem, a MASSIVE new Controversy, and other stuff. 1-4-05 Updates in the next few days. Sorry about the server going down, but thanks for doing it! 12-21-04 Updates coming. I had ANOTHER animal die, and it's my birthday tomorrow, and it's Christmas, so no whining. Not that anyone's really reading anyway, but just in case someone might whine in the eternal future when they want to know where the update in these two weeks were. In the meanwhile, Merry Christmas! 12-12-04 New Controversy. I've also got more poems brewing than in the last few months, so there will likely be some with the next update, with a video poem. Within two updates, I will likely know if I have a book deal, so please check back... 12-9-04 Because I forgot for the last update...I'm doing a new article now called "Neal's Comic Book Graveyard", which is hosted at Camp Horror. Check it out! I also updated links with the link for when it cycles off the main page, so don't forget to check it out! I have also been selected as a finalist in Dark Idol, so be sure and hit that contest and send votes my way when things get started! (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!) 12-4-04 New Controversy. I figured I'd take a week off for Thanksgiving. I'm still in a funk about Yoyo, so I've been a bit off. BUT, I came through tonight. There's the new Controversy, but in addition, I have added sixteen new poems, I've completely updated the review page, I've added a link in Links to Tom Nguyen (I bought one of his pieces, and he's a great friend and artist). I also made the THWN link work again. I have been informed that I should know about my novel before Christmas, meaning, whether it will be published or not, and I have been sending out a query a day since I got the cash from selling the house. Things are looking positive, and there's more to come. I also did another Video Poem, called More Proof That There is No God (For YoYo). It's kind of sad. For the poem, see here... 11-21-04 New Controversy. I decided to do the article instead of the major update, which I'll do next week. 11-20-04 Controversy coming, but it'll be a few days late. This is the first week with a break from Smallville in a while, and my dog got run over and died, so I am being lazy. The upside is that there will definitely be poetry, as there already is, and it will be good. Expect an update in the next few days, keep checking back... 11-13-04 New Controversy. I had a good time with that one. There is also progress on poetry. I had a dry spell, but now I have three or four more, and soon I'll have enough for a substantive update. Until then, have a new Video Poem, number 19: Gunshots As I Title the Human Spirit. Lyrics HERE. Foithermore, an update on the novel. Work progresses. I don't know the page count, and that's a GREAT sign, because it means that I'm, not paying attention to word count but the story, which I'm digging. It's a coalescence of my Gwayne, Empereror Norton, and novel-in-a-novel ideas, with a touch of prequel to Homicidal Suicidal Psychological Steve. More on that as it develops. It feels like I've done 20-30 pages, in my head. Also updated Publications with the two poetry books (DUH! Left them in Poetry without thinking about it, assuming people would find them. Jeeze! You'd think I wasn't in this for the money or something!) 11-6-04 New Controversy. A lot of movement in the last week, a lot of soul searching. Usually I'm not so lax. Lax for me is only 20 pages every other day, but I've been lax. The house having sold is making me feel a lot better, so I started getting my novel on, and prematurely reported that what I was working on this last week was the new novel. I always do that. It's like when you're hunting for deer, you always think you see one, but you know when it's really there. Well, last night, I really started a novel. You always know, but you always want to jump. It's pretty good, too. I think I may be looking at my first epic. An epiphany at 3:48 in the AM last night drove me to the madness. Consequently, still little poetry (but that will iron out soon) and there is more motivation to send things out. Starting with the money returning, I plan on sending out a submission a day until I am wholly pleased with my level of success. I have decided to make the regular update day Saturday instead of Friday, because I need more than one day to recover from the Smallville review and do this site, and it gives me a nice pace. Thank you for your patience. I note with interest that a lot of you hit the poetry section more than anywhere else. Curious, because before the counters, I thought most of you would be hitting the comics or Controversy. Since no one hardly writes me in and tells me what to add or what they like, though, I'm lost. Help? :) Also, check reviews for a nice little update. 10-30-04 New Controversy. I have two miserable poems for you. Mostly because I've been in a royal funk because of the house not selling, but it just sold, so now I'm relieved, and working again. I've really slacked on poetry, so I'm going to bust out on it soon. There's a new Video Poem, number 18: Song of the Night At Work. I figure, if you have to write only two poems, that Song of the Night At Work isn't so bad. You'll see I made it the title of the site, because I've been thinking about it for over a month. So new poetry, new video poem, new Controversy, and soon, perhaps, an excerpt of this new novel I'm working on, I hope. 10-23-04 New Controversy. I updated the links in Reviews, there's a whole bunch of new ones. More poems coming, and a new video poem, next week. 10-17-04 I put up this week's Controversy. It's a long and difficult one, but it's also biting. I haven't had much poetry of late, I've been experiencing a little block. The good news, however, is that I seem to have started writing the sequel to Madly. My heart isn't in it, but I need to be doing something, so it's going on. Hopefully I'll have more poetry next week, but I'm open to suggestions. Tell me what you like, and I'll focus on it. I saw a brief fall in readers, and now the readership is spiking again, so tell me what I should put on here to get you to bookmark and check this site every day. 10-10-04 I finally put up a new video poem, VIDEO POEM 16, 10-10-04: Yard 1, Goodness of God: Goose-egg/Issa and My Ass. Enjoy! For the poems, click here for Yard 1, and click here for Issa. 10-9-04 There's a new Controversy. Take a look, it'll curl your toes and put hair on your palms! 10-5-04 I just updated links with the old banners. Check them out! 10-5-04 I just updated Controversy with next two articles. Check them out! 10-5-04 I just updated comics with two new issues of the New Patriot and the finished first issue of Justify. More to come tonight! 10-5-04 I just updated poetry with 21 new poems. More to come tonight! 10-5-04 All of the links are now transferred, and I've begun the big update. All of the reviews are current. There are 14 new reviews, including interviews with Karl Kerschl, Jeph Loeb, and Al Gough. There are new articles as well, and more coming in the next few days. I'm calling it a day (about 16 hours on this site in the last two days), but tomorrow expect new poetry, new comics, new Controversy (2) and new links... 10-5-04 I've moved a bunch of links, but it's taking longer than I expected. More tomorrow. For now, the comics section has some realignment, a new issue of Superman Ascent, and the novel section's HSPSteve FINALLY has the images in it. 10-4-04 Well, that's better. The whole site is up and running now. Tomorrow I will reroute the final links for the quotes so they work and update, but for now the whole site should work. BIG update tomorrow, be sure to check back. Thanks again for your patience. 10-4-04 Aha! The menus are fixed. 10-4-04 Continuing work continues working. I have the reviews up and the novels section up. The menus are still amiss, but give me a moment and I'll have that fixed... 10-4-04 Work continues. The poetry section is now up, but the menus are still a work in progress. Please use the ones on the left and use them from the "index" page only. Sorry bout that. There are also issues with style on the pages that are up that I'm working with. Neal. 10-3-04 I have now set up, at least temporarily, the old news, comics, and the Controversy section. I am working to make the menu bars reach the correct links, and my apologies if you have to goof a bit. Your patience is appreciated. This is a work in progress... 9-27-04 Welcome to the new Neal Bailey.com! With the help of Steve Younis, best webmaster ever, I've brought a new and yes, gasp, professional look to this site. We're still the same site, it's just now, we look goooooooooooooooood! Special thanks to Steve for this whole schema, I'm in his eternal debt. There are tons of updates to come, including Controversies past, I just figured I'd get this up and running as soon as possible so you wouldn't float off in boredom while I readied the site for the transition. More soon! By the way, the links to the left and below will be incorrect/offline until I mention otherwise here. I have to do the sections again one by one, so you'll just have to grit and bear with my as I make the transition...thanks for your patience. -Neal- All news items below this point may have dead links due to the complete reformat of the site. Ergo, don't complain if you hit a link that doesn't work, it's more here as a record of what happened on the site and what's been happening in my life. Sorry if that bugs you. 8-28-04 Here's this week's Controversy... 8-23-04 Okay, here's that update I promised. First off, buttloads of reviews. There's another Big Blue Report, Smallville the Comic 9, A Birthright retrospective, Birthright 12, Supes Unlimited on the Superman Homepage, , Action Comics 818, and the Smallville Season 1 Official Companion book. In addition, there are a bunch of new poems. There were more, but some of them don't belong online. Sorry. There is a new Video Poem. Enjoy! Next week, a new controversy about a line from the Reader's Digest: "Today as parents we tend to take care of ourselves first-and hope that the children will benefit." More to come. 8-20-04 Not much to add, I've been unable to update with poetry due to the immediate change in plans. Basically, I found out my house is overvalued in a seller's market, so I'm getting rid of it, because I never wanted to be a landlord anyway, not really. I will be making the major update mentioned, it's just going to happen this coming week, likely. For this week, I have come up with Controversy 5: What We Are Doing, What We Are Thinking (8-20-04). Enjoy it! 8-13-04 Thanks to all of you who are still here after the release of Superman Unlimited to the Superman Homepage. Glad to have you. I couldn't believe it, the page here shot up 500 hits in three days. That just goes to show you how admired and kickass the Superman Homepage is. I've been swamped with family visits and a friend's marriage, but the bulk of my next update should be made next week, with assloads of poetry, a new video poem, and an update to the reviews, including links to the Superman Unlimited page, a few more articles, and other good stuff. I secured an interview with Karl Kerschl, which rules, we just have to work out a time. He's the guy who did that fantastic work on Superman a while back and the guy pencilling Majestic right now, which I highly reccomend. The main reason I'm writing is to let you all know about the update coming, and also to give you the next controversy, which is Controversy 4: I'm A Fucking Flip-Flopper. Deal With it. (8-13-04). It's bigger than the last few, and it's more shaky, but it was fun to write. Because it's an informal article, if you want my citations, just write me. I'll send them along. 8-6-04 I haven't got much poetry, but I should pop on in the next few days with some reviews, articles, and etcetera, including Superman Unlimited's publication on the Superman Homepage. For now, have Controversy 3...it's less serious this time, and more humorous. Check it out! 7-31-03 Nothing much of yet, simply as promised, the new Controversy, Controversy 2: Another Apathetic, Communistic Fuck the Rich Song (It’s Just Because I Want A Dentist, That’s All. Regular Checkups). Give it a read, let me know what you think at my email. 7-28-04 Booyah! I got into another paying anthology, still tentative to have a release date, called Testosterone. I'd say check the story out, but now you've gotta pay for it, beyotch! Do somethin! Anyway, I have uploaded a few more pieces of Jerry's site to My Pal Jerry, and I've also popped bunch of the new sketches from character studies for The New Patriot into one, easy to see sketch page, which can now be found in the comic section. Also, there's now a new Video Poem. Check it out! Also, at the very bottom of pictures, you'll find all of the old titles I put up. 7-25-04 I have now, for your pleasure, a site called "My Pal Jerry". It's a subsection of Nealbailey.com to backup the works of my friend Jerry Newingham, who makes really hilarious shorts and Superman/Batman World's Finest serials. He's talented, and funny, I reccomend taking a good long look. I have also added some poetry. There is more coming, including the video poem and some sweet New Patriot sketches! I have a new section of the site, exclusive article content only found here and nowhere else, it's a new article called "Controversy". This week, Controversy 1: Gay Marriage and Tooth Decay. These will be articles designed to inflame, piss off, etcetera, and they're going to be harsh, to the core, pretty rough and vulgar. I'm hoping they'll take off, people will like them. And hey, dammit! Hit canvas! No one's told me what they think! Don't make me choke your puppies! 7-24-04 Yo yo yo. I have an update for you....today, we have the new Short Story section...it's got a bunch of my stuff from the last few years, some of the good stuff. Also, in the next few days, look for massive new stuff. First, I may be bringing you some work from a good friend of mine, Jerry Newingham, also, some new poetry, some new reviews, a new video poem...I'm pacing myself, but it's coming. Also, Al just came through with a BUTTLOAD of cool New Patriot sketches, he has the boards, and we're about to start work! This site is about to heat up! Keep visiting! 7-14-04 I figured, why not play a little catch-up while returning to life, eh? I've updated comics with a piece I wrote about the death of Gina. And hey, this is the biggest, coolest part of this update...I made little movies of all of my canvas, and the canvas section is finally up. PLEASE buy one, support the maniac writer! In a few days, I'll update with a short story section, along with some poetry. I would also like to express my condolences to Steve Younis, my editor, who lost his daughter. Please keep your thoughts with him, folks. 7-10-04 Well, twenty days down, I've returned to life. My dog is dead...that kind of sucks. I have a new dog now. That's all right. People are like, "What, didn't you like your other dog, getting another dog so fast?" I look at it like this. How much do you have to love something in order to not be able to live without it for an entire week? I think if someone wanted to find new and interesting poetry a week after I was dead, I wouldn't feel dishonored. I'd feel my life had served its purpose. And yet still, four and a half is too young to die. Here's to you, Gina. You were a hell of a mutt. Irreplaceable. I also finished and sent off the novel. I think it has a chance. I hope. I also did a lot of housework, you know, kind of lost myself in my hands. Also, I wrote one hell of a lot of poetry. 22 poems, to be exact. Check a few of them out in the poetry section. I've taken down all of the video poems except the new one. I have them if you want to see them, thus the words still being on the Video Poem Archive page, I just wanted to make some room, and since no one's beating down my door because of my lack of updates (Sorry, I needed time to get over the dog) I'm sure it'll be okay. You want one, let me know, I'll fire it back online. I did some reviews, too, in the last few weeks. Let's see...Superman 206, and Superman: Secret Files and Origins 2004. There's also a new Video Poem...if you look carefully, you can meet my new little friend, Yossarian. He's four months old, and likes to chew. And also, because I have no dying dog, because I have no novel, expect updates more frequently, provided I can come up with some decent poetry or something else to update, maybe just a video poem, who knows? 6-18-04 Has it been thirteen days? Monkey Jesus. But I guess the good thing is, I've finished the editing, it's done, so now I can get back to the real business, poetry, comic books, short stories, perhaps another nove- WHAT? I didn't just say that. I refuse. Never. Let's see, I have a review for Action Comics 816, and the first issue of Identity Crisis. Good stuff, the both, with some flaws. I also have some Poetry for you, and I have moved the last notebook into the background to make room for Meretricious Poetaster, which is working out well, so far. Less prolific, but both of the poems are home runs, at least, until the light of time makes me think it crap. My dog is dying. That's why I didn't update last week. Kidney disease, I've learned. Console me, please. No one seems to give a shit except me. In other news, I send out the novel in 7 days. Time to curse me with hoodoo if you hate my guts, or cross your fingers if you want to list me as a reference some day. Hoo hah. New Video Poem. Enjoy it. Try not to commit suicide. 6-5-04 The days are blurring, night is day, I'm royally fucked up, folks. I've been editing about 35-40 pages a day, which may not sound like much, but that's a lot. I'm beat. I figure I'll get through my drafts in time for the end of June, but I will definitely be taking a week off at the end of all of this. Benjamin, so far, has been my hardest novel to write, not because of the lack of fun with what I'm doing, but because I have so strictly regimented myself. Consequently, I have little for you right now. There's one new Review, for Adventures of Superman 628. Believe it or not, I finished Everybody to the Limit!, my poetry notebook. After I finish my novel and send it off, my direct first plans are to start compiling my fourth poetry book. I'm gonna call it "Meretricious Poetaster" or a second title I have to come up with yet. A meretricious poetaster is basically a vulgar, petty writing whore poet. I like it. Check poetry for the few poems I've come up with lately. Everybody to the Limit will soon be archived. The new poetry notebook is also Meretricious Poetaster, or Every Day A Little Apocalypse. And hey, look! I made me a video poem! I kick ass! It's one of my faves, a little cynical ditty about Abraham Lincoln. Figured it'd be funny since the gipper just got gipped. 5-22-04 Okay, so I didn't update. Why? The end of Smallville and the novel editing. BUT, I swear, henceforth I should be able to do a weekly update, and for your patience I have some cool stuff. First, too damned many reviews to count. Smallville 320, 321, 322, Superman 204, Superman: Birthright 10, and Smallville the Comic 8. There's also an interview with Greg Rucka and Matthew Clark, 521 Square Feet, No Furniture. Also, assloads of poetry (but unlike typical ass loads, not filled with shit, I hope). I didn't do a video poem, but I did do a video...I made a short film called "Be A Plumber." If you like it, I have it in a larger format. Let me know. Next week, the return of the video poem. Also, I have been interviewed with by the BBC World View, and here is a wav of it. Cool! 5-4-04 A brief intermission from the just made update....I just recieved something from Alessandro Gianna that blew my socks off. Check....this....out: Now if that don't sell you, Luthor you venomous snake, I don't know what will! I also put it under the comics page, if you want to print one off and get your friends excited! 5-3-04 Welcome to an update. That's right, I'm actually updating. You will find, for your pleasure (or discerning consternation) reviews for Smallville 317, 318, and 319, along with reviews for It's A Bird and Superman: The Man of Steel 95 (an old comic with a new review. Also, per promise, I have added my poetry for the last little while, and it's a nice little chunk of verse. For an update with regards to Benjamin, I am to chapter 13.5 in the editing, and I have a good chunk to go, but I am more than halfway finished, and I plan on handing out the novel to the folks who offered to read the piece when I finish the second draft, so I can get suggestions before I mail out in late June. A sample chapter will soon be put up for those of you who are not interested in the whole book. Yet. Mwu ha ha! I have updated the commission page, but you don't really have to go there, just read this. Now included in the commission page is a drawing, humorous. I will draw you something that I think (and I hope you will find) funny on a sheet of paper and sign it for five bucks, plus postage. Please, please commission me. I will post samples of what you might recieve here, soon, or you can look at my tee shirts at the store. No video poem yet, I am putting that off until the editing is finished, because that's two hours a week I really need right now. 4-24-04 For starters, here is a command, a staunch one. Write a letter to your congressman or woman right now and protest the reintroduction of a draft. It's indentured servitude, forced war, and besides, a voluntary force is safer for the United States on all fronts. Now on with my crap. It's been a while, I'm the first to admit, but here it is. I have finished the book, and I'm 60 pages into the editing. The editing goes slower than I'd like, but it's a good book, I don't want to mess it up. My personal goal is June, but I have no problem finishing June 30th, or later, if need be. I've lost a lot of weight. I weigh as much as I did at 17 for the first time in 7 years. I weigh 180 pounds. Atkins works. I'm bloody amazed. Nothing popular works. I've lost 35 fucking pounds. There are some new reviews and articles. I lucked into an Ed McGuiness interview (that's a big deal, in case you're comic ignorant) and I also got to go and interview Greg Rucka and Matthew Clark in Oregan, two really great guys who gave me an amazing forthcoming interview. Rucka made a mark on me for his writing skill, and Matthew for his work and dedication to it. Greg wrote me after reading the interview and gave me perhaps the best compliment I've ever recieved, telling me he liked my style. Coming from the mastermind of Officer Down, No Man's Land, Queen and Country, and Atticus Kodiak, that means a hell of a lot to me. Things are just...bloody amazing. Living the dream. Anyway, you can see the McGuiness interview here, and the new reviews are Smallville 317 and 318, along with Action Comics 814. I've been doing all right with poetry, but I haven't had time to type up yet. I will soon. I'm also postponing video poems until the editing's done or I catch the whim, unless someone requests, and then I'll do one. Hah! In house news, I ripped out a fence, stripped the paint on a room, built a shelf, and the financial woes are now almost over to the tune of 500 flex bucks every two weeks. The future's bright. Now watch my ass get drafted. I'm serious. WRITE THAT LETTER. One more thing. If you want to help me out, Steve Younis, my editor, my webmaster, and my friend has opened a Superman Superstore in conjunction with Metropolis, IL and Jim Hambrick. If you would kindly purchase something from the below link, I will not only get a kickback, but you'll help support the webmaster who publishes pretty much anything I come up with, a great guy. Check it out! 4-9-04 I am postponing an update for a week, but here's an update for you all the same. After finishing that announcement about Dinoship, I set sail and imposed on myself a rigid law of 4,000 words a day or bust, and not crap words, good words. Since then, 6 days ago, I have produced 22,000 words. I am fried, but I am on a pace to finish within the week, and commence editing. Therefore, despite the fact that I have poetry, I will do no quantitative update until next week, when I am finished. I will then put up all the poetry I've been writing, and there is a good bit, a new video poem, and a call to any and all who want to review my book before I send it off. In fact, screw that. I send out the call now. Anyone who wants to read my novel before I send it out, write me and let me know. But you have to be super cruel, that's the only rule. More to come. 4-4-04. Ready for a sarcastic Oh, Damn? Oh, damn. I have to take Benjamin's Dream off of the site right now. BECAUSE DINOSHIP ASKED TO SEE THE WHOLE THING! WOOOOOOOO! That is all. 4-2-04 Damn! I forgot! I updated Benjamin's Dream. It's almost to 150. That'll happen tonight. I have a nice little string of chapters in my head. Remember, though, it's still rough. I do this so the process can be seen, if anyone's interested. 4-1-04 I did the tour of the house, and it sucks. It just sucks. I mean, I can't do it right with this camera. I'm tabling the idea unless someone smacks me. I just had a great week. I did an interview with Ed McGuiness, the penciller for Superman/Batman, over the phone, and it's up at the Superman Homepage. I had a very educational and humbling experience with Greg Rucka and Matthew Clark, the new Adventures team, in Portland, and I almost got killed on the way down. There's a while story, and the article is forthcoming. Expect the abbreviated version on my livejournal soon. There's some poetry, but it's not ready yet, and there's no new reviews. It's been a very procedural week. I just spoke on the phone with Frank Hart, the penciller for my new project Justify, and he's trying to free up some time in between his move to work with Disney to put a few things forward. All is well. I have a new Video Poem for you, for real this time. Sorry about last week. It's called Submission For the Atlantic Monthly. I am not responsible for the five English accents I used in this piece. But I am the protagonist...It's supposed to mean something. Maybe it did. I have also added a few shirts, really cool ones, to the Neal Bailey store. PLEASE buy them and support my ass! Also, my buddy who writes for DC Jake Black is trying to sell a very kickass retailer incentive copy of Superman/Batman #1. He's looking for 150 bucks, negotiable, and it's well worth it. It's the star of what will invariably be the modern age's World's Finest. It's a fine investment, and a good comic, so email me if you're interested. 3-23-04. Well, unless you're blind or a morphodite or something, you can tell that I am updating the site. We have frames now, which is an improvement, and also new design constraints and ideas provided by the very able MaLora. There is a bunch of new stuff for you, and thank you for being patient with the extra few days in between updates. There is a kick ass new couple of poems. There is the first draft of three new comics in the comics section, one called Justify, one a New Patriot 1/2, one Superman: Ascent. There are new reviews in Adventures of Superman 626 and Smallville The Comic 7. There is no update to Benjamin's Dream, because other things got in the way. There is a new section, Publications, in which I hawk my wares and you BUY! There is now a Neal Bailey store, where you can buy pithy things and send a few pennies my way. BUY! Hurry up and buy! I will autograph, if you want. More stuff will be popping up here, including tee shirts, soon. And a new VIDEO POEM! This time it's "To Be Named Tomorrow!" (COMING TOMORROW) Looks like the leukemia drive pulled in more than 1500 bucks. Good times! As I update to the new format, keep coming back, as I will be taking things out, putting things in, etcetera. It should get much easier to navigate. Thank you for your patience. 3-14-04 Yeah, dude. I rock. In the column of the more cool things I've ever done, I gave myself a mohawk today. With help. Turns out the Leukemia drive wanted people to dramatically alter their hair. Here I end up thinking I'll look like a jackass, instead I am very pleased with the results. Go MOHAWK. I've been wanting to do that since I was 14, and now that I don't have a job, I can, so I did. Fucking A. There's about a pound of Elmer's in my hair right now. For more pictures, check the newly updated PICTURES section of OTHER STUFF, where you will see more beginning, middle, and end pics. In writing news: I have written some things. Wrote. I have for you updated Benjamin's dream, complete with missing graphics, I do believe. I wrote the end of the world, and that's a good thing. The novel is at page 132. I anticipate things going much faster, with a finish between 250 and 300 pages, about 110,000 words. In the poetry section, I have added about six new poems. Realizing that I likely have about 300 poems on the site, expect me to pare down soon, and take a few notebooks off. So read now, if you're gonna, or write me and ask me not to take them down. Yeah, right. And monkeys might fly INTO my butt. (GO HOME, LITTLE ANAL DWELLING BUTT MONKEY!) Also, as ever, a new Video Poem. This one's called People in Anapest, and it's from my book No, You're Always the Bug. I'm gonna try and hawk my books over the video poem, and if you guys would buy one or both it would REALLY help my ass. But every time I say that, people just ignore me. Still, I have to say it. The house tour is coming, but I haven't done it yet. Too much going on with the novel and life. Some new reviews: Superman Birthright 8 and Smallville 316. No new Smallville for 4 more weeks. Other than that, that's all he wrote. More next week! 3-5-04 All right! I'm back. Turns out Smallville's on a five week Hiatus until April 14th, so I get to plow into some of my nice independent projects now. To update: Went to the Emerald City Comic Con and got tentative commitments for interviews from Mr. Rucka and Mr. Clark of the new Adventures of Superman, which rules. I also made some submissions, we'll see where that goes. I have a few nice new reviews for y'all (and sorry for missing a week of updates. I just had no bandwidth left, I had a few things to do, it happens. I will pay back in writing, post haste. The new reviews are: Smallville 315, Smallville 315, and Superman 202. No new poetry, but this is because Benjamin is on page 117. I've been rocking that bitch, for sure. I have a few comics in the works, one tentatively titled Justify. I'm working on it with Frank Hart, a new guy I met online. He's good. I also have new reviews up at Mid-West, for a new Bukowski, Neuromancer, and The Price of Loyalty. You will also find a new Video Poem, Summer 1993. Ah, Love., and next week, a tour of my house, because people have asked what my new house looks like. My cool webmaster gave me some extra space, so fortunately I do not have to delete |
